Companies Continue to Brighten Spirits
With Holiday Parties

Oak Brook, IL (December, 2003) — Research shows the holiday party remains a staple employee service for boosting morale and recognizing employees during the holiday season. Companies are experiencing a growth in employee turnout and most of them are maintaining the holiday party budget or increasing it.

According to “Holiday Parties,” a recent survey conducted by Employee Services Management (ESM) Association, 64 percent of companies hold a holiday party. Of this group, 35 percent have offered the event for 21 years or more.

Over the last two years, 34 percent of respondents say attendance at the company’s holiday party increased and 51 percent say it remained the same. Of those that saw a jump in attendance, 56 percent attribute it to an increase in employee interest and 47 percent to an improved event format.

Despite the slow economy, companies budgeted a considerable amount for this year’s holiday parties. Over the last two years, 29 percent of budgets increased and 49 percent remained the same.

Approximate Budget For This Year’s Holiday Party

Under $10,000 45 percent
$10,000 - $19,999 18 percent
$20,000 - $29,999 11 percent
$30,000 - $39,999 4 percent
$40,000 - $49,999 3 percent
$50,000 + 18 percent

The online survey was developed by ESM Association, an employee services organization that serves as an information and product/service network for over 2,000 members nationwide.
